GTA: Vice City Missions List — Every Story Mission in Order
Tommy's rise from bagman to kingpin runs to 59 main story missions, handed out by about a dozen contacts. Counting asset missions, races, phone jobs and side work, the game holds roughly 86 missions in total. Here is the GTA: Vice City mission list in playable order, with the parts that actually gate your progress called out.
Everything below applies equally to the 2002 PC release, the Definitive Edition and the free browser version.
Chapter 1 — Ocean Beach (Sonny's men)
The opening stretch after the deal goes wrong on the docks. Short, scripted, and mostly about learning the map.
- An Old Friend — meet Ken Rosenberg.
- The Party — meet Juan Cortez and Mercedes.
- Back Alley Brawl, Jury Fury, Riot — Rosenberg's clean-up jobs.
- Treacherous Swine, Mall Shootout, Guardian Angels — Cortez introduces the Colonel's world.
Chapter 2 — The Cubans, Haitians and bikers
The west island opens up here, and so does the difficulty. Three factions, three sets of missions, and the game's most-failed sequences.
- Umberto Robina (Cubans) — Stunt Boat Challenge, Cannon Fodder, Naval Engagement, Trojan Voodoo.
- Auntie Poulet (Haitians) — Juju Scramble, Bombs Away, Dirty Lickin's. You lose your weapons for these.
- Big Mitch Baker (bikers) — Alloy Wheels of Steel, Messing with the Man, Hog Tied.
- Avery Carrington — Four Iron, Demolition Man, Two Bit Hit. Demolition Man is the RC helicopter mission, and it is the wall most players hit.
Chapter 3 — Building the empire
After Rub Out you take the Vercetti Estate and the game changes shape: from here the story is driven by property, not by contacts.
- Rub Out — take the mansion from Diaz.
- Shakedown, Bar Brawl, Cop Land — establishing protection.
- Cap the Collector, Keep Your Friends Close… — the finale.
The asset missions that gate the ending
This is the part people miss. You cannot start the final mission until you own and complete the missions for six asset properties, on top of the Vercetti Estate you get automatically. Buy them, then run their mission strand to completion:
| Asset | Cost | Income once complete |
|---|---|---|
| Pole Position Club | $30,000 | $4,000 |
| Cherry Popper Ice Cream Factory | $20,000 | $3,000 |
| Kaufman Cabs | $40,000 | $5,000 |
| The Boatyard | $10,000 | $2,000 |
| Sunshine Autos | $50,000 | $9,000 |
| The Malibu Club | $120,000 | $10,000 |
| Print Works | $70,000 | $8,000 |
| Film Studio (InterGlobal) | $60,000 | $7,000 |
Any six will do. If you are optimising, the Boatyard ($10,000) and the Ice Cream Factory ($20,000) are the cheapest routes to two of the six, and the Ice Cream Factory doubles as a passive money printer for the rest of the run.
Missions worth preparing for
- Demolition Man — RC helicopter, no combat, brutal controls. Take it slow; the timer is more forgiving than it feels.
- The Driver — a straight race against Hilary. Steal a fast car before starting it.
- Cap the Collector — much easier with the Hunter from 100 hidden packages.
- Keep Your Friends Close… — a long defence with no checkpoint. Full armor, Python or M60. Read our beginner tips first.
